CEO Speaks 8.10.24

Happy Saturday and welcome to CEO Speaks for Saturday August 10, 2024, sponsored exclusively by Second Wind Consultants, specializing in article 9, out of court, transactional restructurings.

Today’s journey takes us into the inner workings of TMA and just a little share about how inside and out the secret sauce of what makes us special, reinforcing why membership matters, and the caring and love that our members and leaders selflessly give to support TMA.

Membership in TMA matters because TMA is a family that cares for its own, welcomes new members and champions those who want to be part of this big tent, with support that aides in building important relationships that last a professional lifetime. It’s about setting examples, raising the bar and showing that better together builds character, respect and meaningful relationships through TMA.

Take for example the caring focus of Team TMA members Talayah Goodlow , Senior Marketing Coordinator and Ashlynn Hill, Manager of Awards & Education, who this month were awarded with the Power of Associations Award by the American Society of Association Executives, for their dedication and efforts on TMA’s “Voices of Inclusion” marketing campaign, and for supporting TMA’s DE&I committee in its multi year project which culminated in the publication of the TMA DE&I playbook.

These award-winning initiatives were recognized for their focus on a multi-channel communications campaign, including social media and newsletter features, showcasing real member voices during Pride Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month and Hispanic History Month.

The initiative also spotlighted TMA’s DE&I playbook, created by the TMA DE&I committee, founded as a presidential working group by former TMA Global Chair Matthew English, CTP in 2021, and lead thereafter as a standing TMA committee by Jenny Stam, former TMA Toronto President, Angela Allen, former TMA Chicago-mid-west President and this year under the leadership of TMA’s first VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Janine Figueiredo.

We stand TMA proud for the inspiration and vision of the TMA marketing team lead by Senior Director Jodi Talley, our volunteer leaders, and the support of Talayah and Ashlynn who together stand for what it means to be better together for TMA initiatives like these.

As we continue our journey behind the TMA curtain this week, a glimpse at the 2024 Nominations Committee and the deep deliberations in which that have been engaged in the creation of a leadership runway that will assure a sound and sure TMA Tomorrow.

Lead by TMA Global Chair Jane Mitnick, this esteemed committee which includes voting members TMA NYC President Kate Aiello, Former TMA Houston President and Global Board member John Baumgartner, TM NJ Board member, NOW Committee leader and TMA Board member Sari Placona, TMA Global international VP, former TMA Europe President, TMA Deutschland board member and NOW committee member Eva Ringelspacher, and Chapter Presidents Council Vice Chair and former TMA SoCal president Rob Saunders, along with ex officio committee members Global President Allen Wilen and President-elect Rachael Smiley, met in Chicago last week, and over the course of two days, debated and deliberated about who best to fill the leadership roles for the 2025 TMA Global Executive Board and Board of Trustees.

With a pool of candidates as strong and talented as this year’s nearly 50 nominees represents, the work for this committee is amongst the most important and toughest charge there is in TMA leadership. With honesty and candor, these leaders have embraced their charge, and as a result we are confident in our future for the thoughtfulness they all have brought to this process.

Now when we talk of secret sauce, the magic that is our Annual Conference, the showcase of everything TMA, which this year will be held in the city of love, Philadelphia, PA October 16th-18th, is well in the planning process.

There too, we look to our quixotic leaders to bring to the forefront the perfect mix of meaningful education along with support of the proposition of why membership in TMA matters, and in that, how to connect our members and those new to TMA with networking that ignites and excites the one connection that becomes many connections strong.

And this year’s committee, a perfect mix of current and former global leaders, NextGen and NOW members, chapter and international leaders, and more, will not disappoint as together we will share TMA love in grand fashion and fanfare in just over 60 days from now.

Thank you to Annual Co-chairs Mark Felger, Gina Lepore and Graham Stieglitz, as well as committee members Jeffrey Hampton, Jeremy Van Etten, Amy Vulpio and Katharina Earle, from TMA Philadelphia-Wilmington, Tanya Meerovich, CTP from TMA New York City, Liz Aboulafia from TMA Long Island, Joe Briggett from TMA Louisiana, Pete Roberts from TMA Chicago/Midwest, Sara Chenetz from TMA SoCal and Emily Muir from TMA UK, for bringing vision, passion and creativity to this effort.

With over 100 registrants already, and with early bird registration continuing until August 14th, be part of the TMA Love and experience member camaraderie in grand fashion by securing your spot at this TMA Annual today.

Oh yeah, and be on the lookout on social media for previews of fun festivities like the Run to Rocky, which will energize and ignite, as together we run the famed steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art as we re-create the Rocky magic with a sprinkle of TMA LOVE.

Lastly today, on this segment of Member Moments, we recognize TMA Atlanta and Southeast Regional Conference leader, Joe Massaroni, who this week, took his charge as a TMA leader, and what it means to take on crisis management to new heights, as he along with Chapter Executive Anna Chandler, led the Southeast regional conference committee through a difficult 72 hours during which time as hurricane Debby was barreling down on the conference venue of Savanah, Georgia, managed the difficult tasks related to the decision to cancel and reschedule that regional conference.

Joe led in a measured, thoughtful and patient manner. And members of the committee together joined under Joe’s steady hand to pivot with purpose, and to assure that the mission of member value in light of a difficult situation was preserved and a positive outcome obtained with the rescheduling of the conference for October 30th-November 1st.

Being part of this difficult few days, and seeing Joe, and the committee in action, was a moment of pure TMA love for which we should all be proud, as this is the level of caring and support of each other and our defining organization truly makes us better together in every possible way.

As always, thanks for taking the time to listen today. And thanks again to our TMA CEO Speaks exclusive sponsor, Second Wind Consultants, for your support of TMA and this podcast.
