Happy Saturday, and welcome to CEO Speaks for Saturday, April 6th, 2024, sponsored exclusively by Second Wind Consultants, specializing in article 9, out-of-court, transactional restructurings. Springtime in TMA nation is when, from the relative quiet of winter, a burst of color comes, defining our organization’s actionable optionality.
Next week, Global President Allen Wilen and I will join nearly 250 TMA members throughout the Midwest for the kickoff of regional conference season at the TMA Mid-America Regional Conference. This conference is hosted by Chicago/Midwest, Detroit, Minnesota, Northern Ohio, and West Michigan. Under the leadership of co-chairs Chantal Eikey (TMA West Michigan), David Levy (TMA Chicago-Mid-West), Heather Rachel (TMA Minnesota) and John Trendell (TMA Detroit), for the first time ever, it will be held in Grand Rapids, MI, home of the West Michigan chapter.
In a perfect mix of standout keynotes, real and relevant programming, a capital showcase, and networking that spans from NextGen to a nightcap reception and dine around to boot promises to, again, show member value, connectivity, and professional development opportunities in TMA defining ways. Another spring classic that is just around the corner will be the TMA Network of Women’s 10th Anniversary Summit. And as is the TMA way, 10 years ago, with the vision and passion of two like-minded women from TMA New York City and TMA Philadelphia/Wilmington, the vision of the possible became a reality, and TMA NOW was born.
Those women, Teresa Kohl of SSG Capital Advisors and Robyn Pollack, co-owner of Loutel, seized the moment and spearheaded this defining initiative to diversify the turnaround industry. From humble beginnings, TMA NOW has become an industry standard, and now, 10 years later, under the leadership of co-chairs Rakhee Patel and Michelle Salazar-Rosenbloom, along with a committee of empowering and impassioned women, TMA NOW connects, supports, and mentors women of the restructuring industry worldwide.
The NOW Summit, being held May 15th-16th, will reflect on the barriers women faced and the challenges they are yet to face while celebrating the victory of those who had the courage to kick open doors to have a seat at the table.
An always inspiring TMA opportunity, we hope you will consider registering to be part of this celebratory 10th Anniversary NOW Summit.
One of the great successes of 2024 has been the excellent and practical webinar programming that, through actionable and real-time topics, continues to attract a growing audience of TMA professionals who both join for the joy of what the programming provides and professional credits.
Next up on the Turnaround Square on April 24th will be a robust and honest discussion on the Who, What, When, Where, and Why (or Why Not) of Receiverships where panelists Peter Davis of J.H. Held, Jennifer Faubion of Craincross and Hempelmann, Cynthia Nelson of FTI Consulting and David Stapleton of Stapleton Group will discuss and debate this long used and sometimes challenging restructuring vehicle. This webinar, in our continuing series of timely Turnaround Square topics of the day, is free, so go to turnaround.org, where you can register for your spot today.
And as we head deeper into spring, if you haven’t heard that London is calling, you may want to think about a trip across the pond where you can be part of the 2nd Annual TMA Global International Symposium and European Annual Conference, June 10th-12th. This special opportunity, already tracking record participation, will feature a TMA workshop-style boot camp led by Certified Turnaround Professionals from Europe and the United States, a pre-conference kickoff reception hosted by the TMA UK chapter, and an international symposium day that will showcase a NOW panel exploring restructuring schemes from around the world as lead by defining women professionals from Europe, the U.S., Southeast Asia, and South America.
This one-of-a-kind opportunity will bring together TMA leadership and members from North America, Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, India, and other parts of the world in the most creative and collaborative way.
For more registration information, go to tma-europe.org so you too can Revolutionize, Rebel, and Rock in a big tent display of camaraderie that is the TMA way.
Don’t think the actionable optionality stops there.
Today, I am thrilled to share that TMA Global will launch its first ever TMA Turnaround Tourney in the coming weeks. What is the Turnaround Tourney, you ask? It will be a heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled global case competition, a high-stakes event where chapter teams comprising NextGen members from across the globe will showcase their skills from the worlds of finance, restructuring, and more.
After several virtual competition rounds, two chapter teams will face off live at TMA Annual in Philadelphia, PA, on October 16th, in a new fall classic brought exclusively by TMA.
Stay tuned for more information on how to assemble your chapter team for this inaugural TMA Turnaround Tourney case competition event.Lastly, today, in the next segment of “Member Moments,” where we shout out to members who have done something momentous and memorable that stands for and supports the mission of TMA, we celebrate the accomplishment of TMA Chicago/Midwest member and recent recipient of the chapter’s emerging leader award, Alex Porter, of Lathrop GPM for the lead he has taken on bringing the TMA Turnaround Tourney case competition to a whole new level.
From the humble beginnings of a virtual case competition in which a handful of chapters participated in what is about to be an inaugural global competition, we applaud Alex’s passion and tenacity to make this inaugural opportunity a reality.
Volunteering like this keeps TMA vital and vibrant, bringing new levels of engagement and opportunity to the forefront. This effort demonstrates vision, creativity, and passion, which is why #TMALightsTheWay.
