These last few weeks have again put front and center how TMA lights the way with defining energy and excitement that has already ignited member value and is setting the stage for another year of groundbreaking opportunities for our members worldwide.

Starting in London, TMA Europe President Tyrone CourtmanTMA Global International VP Eva Ringelspacher, our TMA Global Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Jodi Talley, International Liaison Helen Jacobi, and I, had the opportunity to meet with the UK chapter board and earned their enthusiastic support for the 2nd Annual TMA Global International Symposium and TMA Europe Annual Conference which will be hosted in London June 10th-12th.

We are thrilled for the warm welcome we received from TMA UK Chapter President Joanne Rumley and to have been a part of the chapter’s kickoff event of 2024, attended by more than 100 UK turnaround professionals, where TMA UK board member Andrew Pepper, Head of Restructuring and Turnaround Solutions at Resolve, moderated a panel of experts on a review of 2023 and the outlook for distressed opportunities in 2024, which included industry experts Joanne Rumley, Restructuring Partner at Foot, Ansley; Ed Brittan, Executive Director at Howden Restructuring; Elizabeth Howlett, news editor at Drapers and Stephen Jacobs, Director at Christie & Co.

Thank you to the UK chapter for showing how TMA Lights the Way and will do so as the host chapter for this year’s global international symposium and TMA Europe Annual Conference.

Back stateside, TMA Global President Allen Wilen and I shared in the absolute delight of the TMA Chicago Mid-West chapter’s 19th Annual post-holiday reception at the historic Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, WI.

It was terrific to be part of an event that really defines that familial warmth of TMA, especially on a very cold mid-west January’s night, where Milwaukee committee leaders Virginia George and Erin West, brought to the forefront the fostering of trusted relationships new and old, and carrying on a long standing tradition that was joyful and rewarding for all.

As we light the way with opportunities all throughout TMA nation, it is also important for us to be introspective about the processes at the global board level that look to assure a strong foundation and the example of governance excellence as drivers of value and better practices in support of TMA.

This is why this year, we will have our first governance committee that will look at both better board practices and strategic goals for the organization in preparation for Global President Allen WilenGlobal Secretary Joe Mintz, who will oversee the governance committee, and me, participated in a two-day intensive workshop to explore strategies for improving the effectiveness of board operations and creating a strong and vibrant governance team. This not only ignites a pipeline of visionary leaders but also feeds our defining organization by keeping it vibrant and strong with thought leadership and emerging talent.

And in our determination to understand how all corners of TMA nation support its members, with a visit to our Louisiana chapter, courtesy of the kind invitation of chapter president Joe BriggettTMA Global President Allen Wilen and I had the opportunity to participate in the chapter’s 2024 Lending Outlook Panel, where we learned the regional nuances of education that supports our members in different yet defining ways.

Moderated by board member and SVP of Business Development for Republic Business Credit, Leigh Guglielmo, the panel consisted of an eclectic group of lenders including former banker and now LSU Senior Finance Instructor, Brian Andrews, B1 Bank Commercial Banker Louis Bartels, Hancock Whitney Middle Market Commercial Banker Billy Hoffman and Senior VP and Chief of M&A for First Guaranty Bank, Evan Singer.

This is how we ignite thought leadership and bring real and practical viewpoints to our vital and vibrant organization, in a city that sparkles with a specialness, so much so, that New Orleans has been chosen to be the host city for the 2025 TMA Annual Conference, where we will bask in the glow of a city alive with good vibes we will share in from all over TMA nation.

Speaking of vital and vibrant, in just over a week, nearly one thousand TMA members from all over the world will ascend upon Las Vegas, NV for the most anticipated event of the year: the 2024 TMA Distressed Investing Conference.  I know, like me, you are ready to be immersed in an atmosphere surrounded by industry experts from around the globe, to engage in essential and insightful topics that will spark lasting conversations, and to get closer to igniting new connections and deal opportunities.

And to prepare for this momentous conference opportunity, you will absolutely want to register for the January 31 Turnaround Square webinar: Winning at Conferences, How To Get The Most Out of Any In-Person Marketing Event.

This program will feature TMA leaders and marketing masters Brian Gleason, CTPAllen KadishRob PatrickSari Placona, and Jen Rabinowitz, who will impart their wisdom based on their long-time TMA experiences on how to get the most out of what will be a networking bonanza if managed thoughtfully and with purpose. Get ready, set, and market away by registering for and attending this pre-conference program today.
