The Philadelphia Chapter of the TMA is pleased to announce this year’s recipient of the Philadelphia TMA Academic and Business Scholarship, awarded to Upper Darby High School senior, Robert Madak.
Robert is a senior at Upper Darby High School (UDHS) where he is ranked 16th out of a class of 850. He is a member of the distinguished honor roll and Upper Darby High School Honor Society and has received a number of awards including a department award for visual basic programming and the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology. He also received first place in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competition for Computer Problem Solving and Visual Basic Programming.
Robert played tennis during his sophomore and senior years and participated in a number of clubs including the Hero Club, Robotics Club and Science Club. He has been a member of FBLA for three years and serves as an officer. He is a member of the Royal Orientation Corps, volunteered with Classrooms for the Future, served as a peer mentor and as a member of the Executive Committee. He also participated in the 24-Hour Relay for Life and the Eagle National Bank 5K Walk for Cancer.
His class advisor gave him her highest recommendation and mentioned that he took the most demanding roster possible for most of his high school career. He was allowed to take several independent study classes and during one, worked with the district computer expert to adapt UDHS with "Classrooms of the Future", a grant that enabled the district to provide laptops for students in many classes. Robert was involved with setting up the mechanics for the wireless network and helped instruct teachers on software use and troubleshooting.
Robert has been accepted at Penn State University and Drexel University and is awaiting a decision from the University of Pennsylvania. He plans to major in Finance with a minor in Chemistry or Physics.
As a reminder, the presentation ceremony is scheduled for May 27, 2008 during the UDHS Senior Awards Night. Please let me know if you are interested in attending.
