Jim Seward is an associate professor in the Department of Finance, Investment and Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business. He is also the Prochnow Fellow in Finance. Jim teaches corporate finance, financial management, corporate restructuring and mergers and acquisitions. His research interests include corporate restructurings, initial public offerings, use of equity-linked securities and the medium of exchange in corporate takeovers. Jim has consulted with institutions such as the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, New York State Public Service Commission, Arthur Andersen and Co., Boston Consulting Group, and Citicorp. He worked previously in corporate finance with Washington Gas Light Company and Marsh & McLennan.

Ann Smith practices in the areas of bankruptcy, commercial litigation, commercial transactions and constitutional litigation. She is regularly involved in workouts, foreclosures, replevins, bankruptcy proceedings and adversary proceedings. Smith is a member of Michael Best’s Management Committee and has been recognized by Madison Magazine (2003, 2005) as a leading lawyer in bankruptcy law. She was named a Wisconsin Super Lawyer in the area of Bankruptcy in the November 2005 and 2006 issues of Milwaukee Magazine, and as one of the top 25 Women Wisconsin Super Lawyers in 2006.

Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge
Western District of Wisconsin

The Honorable Robert D. Martin is the Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin. He served extensively by designation to the bankruptcy courts in the Northern Districts of Illinois and Iowa. He is past president of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges and a charter fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. Judge Martin has taught at the University of Wisconsin School of Law and has been a faculty member of the Federal Judicial Center School for Newly Appointed Judges.
